Closing a fairly ridiculous show this week is the local legend that is Johnny Sorrow. The rest of the show just features acts like Gary Delaney (in the middle of a national tour and appearing on Mock The Week and such) trying out new jokes.
JOHNNY SORROW
Year after year Johnny Sorrow stormed it at the Cradley and Stourbridge British Legion in his regular spot between the tombola and the chicken in the basket. Johnny was all set for national and possibly international stardom after being voted: “Black Country Bugle – Light-Entertainer of the Year 1989”. However, after losing out the following year to Stanley Stardust, a plate spinner from Smethwick, Johnny turned his back on show biz… a broken man… to become a cobbler.
In 2004 Johnny Sorrow made his come back, re-launching himself in London and across the UK, finally making a triumphant return to the West Midlands.
“The bloke set the place alight” – Dudley Fire Service
Andrew Bird
“Superb… the exciting rising star” – Time Out
“A natural comedian” – The Stage
“Effortlessly engaging and funny as hell” – Rhod Gilbert
Gary Delaney
“Expect a cavalcade of brilliantly inventive puns from this master of the one-liner, a craftsman to be ranked along with likes of Tim Vine and Milton Jones”
– The Guardian
James Cook
His act has been described as “truly original” (Danny Wallace (off of the telly)), whereas he’s been called “suave and chirpy” by that publishing powerhouse, the Bromsgrove Advertiser, and a “sarcastic raconteur” by the Leeds Metro.
Plus: David McIver, Joe Tree, Dave Pollard, and James Ryan!
