MATTHEW CROSBY: AdventureParty

Matthew Crosby, the short one with the glasses from sketch favourites, PAPPY’S (if.comedy award nominees, Chortle award winners), presents his debut solo show: AdventureParty. Is it an adventure? Is it a party? Is it neither? Come find out. Matthew has written for and performed in a number of TV and radio shows including The Now Show (R4), The Kevin Bishop Show, Robert’s Web (Ch4), Ask Rhod Gilbert (BBC1) and The King Is Dead (BBC3).

“A rising star” BBC Culture Show
“Intriguingly Matthew Crosby from Bromley is also a comedian.” What’s On In Kent magazine

STEVE DAY: Run, Deaf Boy, Run!’

At the age of 47 severely/profoundly deaf comedian Steve Day, of Radio 4, decided to run The London Marathon. In this funny and heart-warming show Steve tells of his struggle to complete the course, and his battles against obstacles far greater than the distance to be run. The more he is absorbed into completing the race the more it becomes a metaphor for his struggles in life, all the trials, triumphs and failures, and the loneliness of the long-distance deaf comedian. Run for a ticket.

Reckless Comedy May 16th with Sally-Anne Hayward

Continuing our season of Edinburgh previews, this Monday we bring you Sally-Anne Hayward in “Don’t Judge me”.

She’s a radio presenter, TV star and fantastic stand-up who has appeared in Absolutely Fabulous and Why the Long Faces, and does the warm-up for a lot of shows such as Deal or No Deal. We’re lucky to be previewing her latest stand-up show.

As ever, there will also be a bevy of support acts, drinks offers and hopefully some… free snacks.

And all for just £2 (which is quite the bargain, given it’ll be £8 in Edinburgh and they won’t even have biscuits… http://www.thestand.co.uk/fringe.aspx?show=Sally-AnneHayward-Don%27tJudgeMe )

Tom Binns is Ian D. Montfort: Spirit Medium

“Ian D Montford, a gloriously deadpan pseudo-psychic. His show – Touching the Dead begins with laughable attempts to work the audience and and then Binns starts unleashing faintly inexplicable clairvoyant revelations, leaving most of the room gasping with incredulity. So he can spoof it, and really ‘do it’”.
TELEGRAPH ★★★★★

“Ian D Montfort, is a spookily skilful, wonderfully observed and hysterically funny character who contacts dead celebrities with incredible results. A monster hit at the Edinburgh Fringe”
TIME OUT LONDON ★★★★★

“Binns makes a triumphant return as the Sunderland psychic Ian D Montfort, mixing eerily good cold-reading skills with a joyful debunking of the genre”
INDEPENDENT ★★★★

“e style of the act is genius –if it works, it’s impressive, if it doesn’t work, well it’s all part of the joke”
CHORTLE ★★★★

2nd May – Edinburgh Preview Show

Hurrah! Reckless Comedy is back on Monday 2nd May 2011 at Robbins’ Well in Leamington Spa. For this run of shows, we have a whole series of Edinburgh previews lined up. What this means is, as well two or three of your regular acts doing ten-minute bits and trying stuff out, the second half of the show will be handed over to one of the many brilliant acts we have booked, who will treat you to an early version of the whole show they intend to take up to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this year.

You’ll literally be one of the first people to see the shows that all the critics will be talking about in August. Acts previewing with us in the coming weeks included Tom Binns (creator of Ivan Brackenbury, the hospital radio DJ), Matthew Crosby (from Pappy’s) and Nathan Caton (has his own BBC Radio 4 series starting in December).

But for our first show we have the brilliant Liam Mullone. A nine-year veteran of the comedy circuit, Liam has appeared on the BBC New Comedy Awards as a finalist, ITV’s Take The Mic, and also on BBC Radio 4’s 28 Acts in 28 Minutes. He writes for ITV1, Radio 1 and Radio 4 including for The Now Show and The Smith Lectures.
